When Carisa and Mike asked me to photograph their newborn Henry, I was almost unable to accept because they’re a Giants household… but this Patriots fan eventually relented…….Just kidding! Carisa and Mike have been my clients for years, and I have adored being able to grow with them.We first met when I was hired to document Harper’s, their first born, 18 month milestone, followed by their wedding ( making even harder not to tear up) So, of course, I was so excited to meet the new arrival to their beautiful family!
Henry was born at Yale New Haven Hospital on December 12, 2018, by cesarean section weighing 8 pounds, 5 ounces, and clocking in at 20.8 inches long. Thankfully for mama, this tall baby was a bit smaller than everyone thought; the doctors and nurses were even taking bets that he would be over 9 pounds.
Henry’s first few days in the world, however, were a bit scary: he had fluid in his lungs and he spent 2 days in the ICU. Carisa had some blood pressure problems and wasn’t allowed to leave her bed for 2 days, so Mike was on double duty. Having a 5 year old myself I can only imagine. My heart broke for this precious family when Carisa shared this with me, but luckily everyone recovered quickly and safely.
The portraits I captured of this new foursome may be some of my all-time favorites. I adore the bond that Harper and Henry have developed already; she is such a proud big sister! Mike and Carisa are so in love with this sweet babe. This family has such great personality that really shines through on camera (like Mike’s X-Men mug! Those piano shots!). And, as you may expect, as a lifelong Disney nerd, I was a little obsessed with Henry’s nursery.
I want to end this entry with a quick story: Henry Jude was named in honor of Mike’s late father, who was a devoted Beatles fan. Henry entered the world to the tune of “Hey Jude” playing on the Beatles Pandora station and, when Carisa and Mike held him for the first time, the song “Help”— Mike’s father’s favorite song— instantly played. Don’t you just have goosebumps?!
